Building your beach house is a dream, isn't it? The inclement, salty wind can turn the dream into a nightmare, corrosion is unavoidable and attacks practically everything that can be corrupted. Here the building challenge lays in being able to create a structure capable of, not only resist the wild weathering coast, but take advantage of the same and get stronger, being anti-fragile. In this scenario, design according to the materials plays a key role, using the latest technologies, such as waterproof cement, epoxy paints, and a mixture of ancestral knowledge. Chukum root – the chukum tree is a semi-hardwood thorny tree found throughout the Yucatan peninsula – takes the starring role, by forming a semi-organic stucco, maintenance free, with a warm and welcoming hue, one that also changes as time goes by, forming a patina that is not only resilient, but also gains temper with adversity. The ludic expression of a beach house must always be present, that’s why in this project we made each space a place devoted to pleasure, differentiated, but at the same time interconnected by huge windows uniting living room, kitchen, dining room and the terrace as one, keeping their reason of being whilst subordinated to comply with a higher good, coexistence.

On the second floor, the room coexists with a versatile living room where you can do everything from home office to yoga; the entire rooftop is a large terrace with an unbeatable panoramic view of almost 360 degrees. The master bedroom on the first floor has a direct connection to the outside of the beach house, taking advantage from the great benefits of Los Moyos residential housing which, being nestled in the middle of nature, surrounded by beach and mangroves, it is an ideal place to get in touch with the environment and with yourself.

From its beginnings Casa Moyos NN was conceived hand in hand with its sister Moyos RR, in a family history that goes back several decades, they can be understood as a single block, different in spirit, but both with the same gene. By not completely separating the houses, the bond that unites the families is preserved.

The development of this project in relation to the client was very peculiar, since the client was in Switzerland, revealing the need to work remotely, using existing digital platforms. Thus proposals, feedback, work reports and continuous improvement of the development happened through commitment and trust. Trust that materialized when they received their home.

Casa Moyos NN is characterized by being a living construction, which has a symbiotic relationship with the environment and through its design, allows the inhabitants to achieve syncretism between the interior and the exterior.
